Domain name lock

Locking your domain name (website address) from unauthorized transfer is a very important security for you need to set as a website owner. Without the domain lock option, an unauthorized person can move your domain ownership to another registrar. This post will show you how to setup domain lock functionality which is available in every domain name registrar’s portal.

Login to your domain registrar’s portal, select the domain you want to lock (do this for all your individual domain), the interface and navigation will vary depending on the domain registrar’s portal. First navigate to domain registrar lock to activate the domain lock feature.

By default, some domain registrar keep the domain lock feature enabled but if yours is disabled, click on the enable button to enable the domain lock.

To transfer a domain name from your current registrar to another registrar, you will first have to disable the domain lock option and the head over to the EPP code section to get the EPP code. Click on Get EPP Code. The EPP Code is like a password for a domain name.

It is a security measure to ensure that only the domain name owner can authorize the transfer of a domain name. You will have to provide it if you want to transfer your domain to another registrar.
